At Confirm, we’re excited to offer HR administrators a powerful feature: customizable talent matrices, including the popular 9-box matrix. With this tool, you can now create matrices tailored to your organization’s needs, using any custom questions to plot and evaluate employee performance.
The 9-box is one of the most widely recognized tools in talent management, traditionally plotting performance vs. tenure. But with Confirm, you’re not limited to those dimensions. Whether you want to assess employees by skills, potential, or engagement, you can easily design matrices that give you deeper insights into your team.
To enable a talent matrix (e.g. 9-box) for a specific cycle, click the toggle "Talent matrices for direct reports" in the "Manager reviews" phase of the cycle.
Once enabled, you add any number of matrices below by clicking "+ Add talent matrix" in the cycle administration page. This will surface the "Edit Talent Matrix" modal editor. In this editor, for a given matrix, you can pick any question or even ONA data like influence or gold stars for your X and Y axes. For each of the boxes, you can edit their names, and you and add or remove the number of boxes by clicking the -/+ buttons on the sides of the matrix.
To create the standard 9-box, you can set a manager rating on the X axis with label "Performance" and set the Y-axis to a custom potential question you ask in the manager evaluation phase which you can provide Y-axis label "Potential".
Once saved, managers and HR administrators can see the talent matrices you have created under the left navigation's Surveys & Performance > Key Takeaways page.
